The Sensi Peel’s blend of plant-derived ingredients and AHAs contribute to a smother, brighter and more even skin tone.
How it works
The Sensi peel contains 6% TCA, which helps to improve fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scarring and 12% lactic acid which brightens skin and evens out skin tone. Lactic acid breaks down bonds between skin cells to allow for easier exfoliation of dead surface cells while hydrating the skin. It also functions as a melanogenesis inhibitor by suppressing the formation of tyrosinase. Other ingredients include 2% hydroquinone which lightens skin, kojic acid, L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), azelaic acid, resorcinol, arbutin, marshmallow root extract, and sweet almond oil. Sensi Peel strengthens and brightens skin by stimulating natural collagen production without increasing erythema. Although the peel is milder than other peels, it still is aggressive enough to remove any dead skin cells, treat superficial lines, blackheads and shrink the size of your pores. Sensi Peels expedite exfoliation. These peels accelerate cell rejuvenation by sloughing away dead skin. After the peel, you may notice some flaking or peeling for a couple of days as the ingredients continue to revitalize the skin.
What to expect from a Sensi Peel?
Prior to applying this peel, a peel prep solution is used to prepare the skin. Between 4 to 6 layers are normally applied during this peel. Initially, a slight stinging sensation may be noted once the peel is applied, although this quickly subsides. Once the Sensi Peel has been applied, patients are free to return home. This peel is self-neutralizing and does not need to be removed and should be left on overnight before cleansing the face the next morning. Should you decide to wash it sooner, Dr Hudson recommends waiting at least 2 hours.
What to expect after a Sensi Peel?
Following this peel, your skin may appear slightly red like a mild sunburn which may last from several hours to two days. Most patients who undergo this peel may experience residual redness for up to twelve hours post procedure. By day 2, skin begins to flake, usually starting between the eyes, around the mouth and nose and lasts between 2 to 7 days. Sun damaged spots may turn darker prior to peeling. Refrain from peeling or picking at the skin, as this may cause hyperpigmentation. By Day 3, your skin will flake, peel, and feel tight. During the healing process, skin will gradually slough off and may appear flushed for a few days. The recovery time for the PCA Sensi peel is typically four to six days. On Day 2, begin using a strong hydrating cream and use it regularly throughout the day. You must completely avoid the sun during this time and wear sunscreen with a SPF 30 anytime you go outdoors. Most of the peeling takes place between days 3 and 4. Continue to cleanse and moisturize. By the end of the second week, you should be able to tolerate glycolic, salicylic, vitamin C, and retinol, retinoid products. A series of six peels is recommended to achieve optimal results and can be performed every 2 to 3 weeks.
