How it works
The Jessner solution essentially deconstructs the top-most layer of the skin and, in turn, triggers an inflammatory response from the skin layers that sit below. Since skin has a natural tendency to heal itself, this leads to the removal of actinic keratoses i.e., sun damage and the improvement of minor hyperpigmentation, scarring, wrinkles, and elasticity.
The Jessner solution is a leave-in solution that is self-neutralizing and takes several days to complete the peeling process. This kind of peel needs to be left undisturbed without application of water or oil on the skin for a minimum of six to eight hours post-treatment to allow for the full benefit,
Clients with darker skin tones should be pretreated with a melanin inhibitor for a minimum of two weeks before performing the first peel. This peel is considered a strong medium strength peel and is comparable to a 20% TCA peel which is also effective in treating more aggressive acne. A Jessner peel is commonly applied in multiple layers. Because it is a stronger peel, Dr Hudson does not recommend applying more than one layer during the initial peel. If a client has melasma, or is heavily pigmented, or darker skinned, Dr Hudson recommends you first be treated with a melanin inhibitor for at least two to four weeks prior to undergoing a peel to avoid developing hyper and hypopigmentation.
faqs
The application of the peel itself only takes a few minutes. The peel is applied to clean skin. After skin hydration, a layer of peel is applied to the skin using a large cotton applicator. The solution is allowed to penetrate for about two minutes Typically, two to three layers of the peeling solution is applied followed by a corrective agent on top, which can include products such as retinol, vitamins, hyaluronic acid, or peptides, depending on our goals for skin and what kind of underlying conditions there are.”
This peel causes frosting almost immediately upon application and results in much peeling. You will need to plan your schedule while undergoing this peel, as clients should anticipate three to four days downtime. After undergoing the peel, your skin may feel as though you have a light sunburn. Treated skin appears pink-red and feels tight. Treated skin will begin to flake and darken between days 2-4, with peeling finishing by Days 6-7.
