Rosacea

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition which presents as redness and flushing  of the face and is of the most common skin conditions treated by Dermatologists,  Rosacea is often mistaken for acne, eczema, or a skin allergy. Clients with rosacea  experience symptoms which may include:

  • Frequent blushing or flushing involving the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead
  • Persistent redness involving the face
  • Small blood vessels visible beneath the skin
  • Acne like breakouts
  • Pus-filled pimples
  • Thickening of the skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sensations of burning, stinging, tightness, or itchiness
  • Thick, bumpy skin involving the nose which can become more bulbous over  time
  • Eye irritation: Rosacea flareups tend to create additional dryness and  irritation that can affect the eyes. Some patients experience red and swollen  eyelids, referred to ocular rosacea

Rosacea tends to flare with increased body temperature, heat, stress, exercise, and  elevated blood pressure. Most people with rosacea spend a great deal of time  thinking about how to hide or get rid of it and it can significantly undermine their  feelings of self-confidence. Although the cause of this condition remains unknown;  it is suspected that genes, mites, bacteria, and sun damage each play a pivotal role.  Although there is no cure for rosacea, some clients conceal their skin redness using  makeup, minimize their symptoms with sun protection and gentle skincare, and  treat flare-ups with topical medicated creams or antibiotics.
