Juvederm®
JUVEDERM®, a product of Allergan, is a hyaluronic acid-based filler used to smooth unwanted wrinkles and restore facial fullness and volume in the aging face. This clear, colorless injectable dermal filler is considered the #1 leading filler used in the US. JUVÉDERM® offers five different, long-lasting fillers. Each one adds volume and is designed specifically for use in areas of the face including lips, cheeks, or chin based upon your specific needs. Not only is JUVEDERM® is able to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it is also able to hydrate the skin and stimulate the production of natural collagen to provide a more natural looking result. Juvéderm® may be used to fill in surface depressions like acne scars or nasolabial folds, augment the lips and sculpt facial features, or smooth out fine lines and wrinkles or replenish lost volume. The entire procedure may take between 15 to 30 minutes to perform, depending on the extent of the area being treated.
How long are the results expected to last?
The results obtained with JUVEDERM® are typically long lasting, with the results of one treatment expected to last between nine months to a year before re-treatment is needed to maintain the initial results.
What side effects are there with the use of JUVEDERM®?
The most commonly reported side effects with the line of JUVÉDERM® injectable gels include redness, swelling, pain at the injection site, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration, and itching. Immediately after the injection, small lumps may be evident at the injection sites, but these can be easily remedied by applying a gentle massaging technique to evenly distribute the filler in the indicated areas. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a potential risk for infection. One of the rare risks with using any dermal filler is the unintentional injection into a blood vessel. The chances of this occurring are extremely low, but should this happen, the complications can be quite serious and may be permanent. These complications can include vision abnormalities, blindness, stroke, temporary scabs, tissue necrosis, and permanent scarring of the skin. Most of these events are irreversible.
For JUVEDERM® injectable fillers, most side effects resolved within thirty days or less. Most side effects resolve with time. Dr Hudson may choose to treat side effects persisting greater than thirty days using antibiotics, steroids, or hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid.
