The Palomar Icon 2940 treatment stimulates collagen and elastin production, tightens and tones the skin, and removes damaged or hyperpigmented cells. This treatment is ideal for treating various cosmetic concerns such as wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, stretch marks, acne scarring, and loss of volume. The 2940 Fractional Laser is a more aggressive treatment option compared to the 1540 Fractional laser treatment and is our most impactful laser skin treatment when it comes to treating the visible signs of aging and UV sun damage. It is ideal for patients that have moderate to severe wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and who are amenable to committing to a week of downtime. The results are dramatic. Patients can expect noticeably smoother, tighter skin, less pigment, and a visible improvement in their skin’s appearance within two to four weeks following treatment. Commonly treated areas are the face, neck, chest, and hands.

Who is a candidate for 2940 Fractional laser skin resurfacing?

If you have fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, or on any area of your body including the face, hands, and arms, you are a suitable candidate for this laser skin resurfacing treatment. Those with darker skin tones and complexions should avoid treatment due to the risk of developing permanent hyperpigmentation.

How many treatments will I need?

Visible results are obtained from only one treatment. Scars of varying severity may require additional treatments in order to break down the fibrotic tissue and achieve optimal cosmetic goals.

What to expect during a treatment?

Before treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area to provide comfort during the procedure. Cold air is blown on the treatment area to cool the skin during the laser treatment. The laser is directed on the skin and the targeted skin is selectively vaporized. The procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated. Once treated, healing serum and ice cold water is applied to skin to ease discomfort.

What to expect following treatment?

You should expect redness, sensitivity, and a sunburn sensation. Skin will feel warm and appear red and puffy. Cool compresses can be used to ease discomfort. A few days following the procedure, your skin will start to peel, shedding all the dead cells, replacing them with new healthy skin. Scabbing and crusting of the treated areas may occur. While the skin is peeling, the treated areas should be kept moisturized using Aquaphor applied several times a day for up to 7 days following the treatment.

On average, you can expect downtime lasting between 4 to 7 days. The results of an Icon® 2940 will not be immediately noticeable following the procedure but will develop over weeks as skin heals and regrows. New skin forms after 1-2 weeks. Patients should limit excessive sun exposure and utilize sunscreen during this time to lessen the risk of developing irregular skin pigmentation. The patient can return to work after 1 week and begin wearing light makeup. Patients should expect skin pinkness to persist for several months. It is important to avoid sun exposure whenever possible. Good skin care and limited sun exposure with good UV protection will lessen downtime.

Once healed, the results are dramatic – smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin. Overall improvement in the skin is 50-75%. Areas improved include wrinkles, skin texture, skin discoloration, and sunspots. Results typically last years and can be maintained with a medical-grade skincare regimen.
